Since the Open is a charity event, all net proceeds are donated to a needy island organization. Dozens of local businesses lend support to the tournament, which has become very popular with golfers throughout the Eastern Caribbean. SMGA organizers schedule the Open as closely as possible to the date of the St. Maarten Carnival. Players from other islands report they enjoy mixing a little Carnival fun with their golf when they come here.

The St. Maarten Golf Association is a chartered Charity Sports Association with the dual interests of promoting the sport of golf on the island and raising funds for charitable causes through its sponsorship of golf tournaments. Last year's charitable donation of two new computers, printers, and scanners went to Sundial School. The annual dues for membership in the SMGA are $50.

Please give us your suggestions about this newsletter. We'd be delighted to include golf-related items of interest to SMGA members. Just tell Gitte or Mary when you see them. Better yet, send an e-mail:
Mary - tomtom7@wandoo.fr
Gitte - sxmgitte@yahoo.com

And finally, please let us know if for some reason you'd prefer not to receive future SMGA Newsletters by e-mail. And if we've misspelled your name or committed some other terrible sin, let us know that, too.
