SMGA is an organization open to all members of the community of St. Maarten / St. Martin. Tourists to the island are encouraged to join and to participate in all the golfing activities and the many annual functions sponsored by the SMGA.

The purpose of the organization was (and is) to promote the game of golf on the island and to give something back to the island in terms of many charitable functions that are planned throughout the year.

It was also desirable to have an organized group to develop and maintain relationships with other similar groups throughout the islands.
